The Engineer - Cloud Operations will play a key role in supporting the design, implementation, and ongoing management of Core42’s Azure cloud environment. This position focuses on deploying cloud resources through automation, ensuring seamless integration of services, and contributing to the development of a scalable and efficient cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Azure services and a passion for cloud engineering, automation, and problem-solving.

Core42 is the UAE’s national-scale enabler for cloud and generative AI, combining G42 Group’s expertise across multiple technology disciplines into a single platform for public sector and large enterprise transformations. Building on our capabilities as sovereign cloud and HPC specialist, we bring generative AI, cybersecurity, professional and managed services expertise to enable national-scale program deployments across industries.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure using Azure services, with an emphasis on automation and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Terraform and Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
  • Assist in building and supporting CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, including tasks for application deployment, infrastructure provisioning, and environment management.
  • Monitor and manage the health and performance of Azure resources, leveraging tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Azure Advisor.
  • Contribute to the automation of operational tasks, workflows, and cloud resource management using scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
  • Support the transition and optimization of services from traditional IaaS to more advanced PaaS offerings.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot issues, enhance cloud performance, and implement best practices for security, cost management, and resource governance.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand technical requirements and ensure cloud solutions align with business objectives.

Qualifications

Experience Level:

  • 3-5 years of experience in cloud engineering, systems administration, or a similar role, with hands-on exposure to Azure services and automation.

Technical Skills & Qualifications:

  • Azure Services & Fundamentals:
  • Experience working with core Azure services, such as Virtual Machines, App Services, Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage (Blob, Table, Files), and Azure Functions.
  • Understanding of foundational cloud principles including IaaS, PaaS, and serverless architecture.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) & Automation:
  • Proficient in using IaC tools such as Terraform or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates to provision, manage, and deploy cloud resources.
  • Basic scripting skills with PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automating routine tasks, build processes, and cloud resource deployments.
  • Azure Networking & Security:
  • Familiarity with Azure networking, including Virtual Networks (VNets), subnets, NSGs, Load Balancers, and Application Gateways.
  • Understanding of basic Azure identity management using Azure Active Directory (AAD), including user management, role assignments, and RBAC.
  • CI/CD Pipelines & Automation:
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts and practical use of Azure DevOps for automating code deployment and infrastructure updates.
  • Ability to build and maintain pipelines that deploy code, update configurations, and trigger monitoring alerts.
  • Monitoring, Management & Troubleshooting:
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Azure Alerts, and Azure Log Analytics to track resource performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize cloud deployments.
  • Familiarity with cost management tools and approaches to ensure efficient use of cloud resources.
  • Containers & Microservices (Basic Exposure):
  • Exposure to containers and container orchestration, preferably using Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or Azure Container Instances (ACI), is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Basic understanding of microservices and how they function within cloud environments.
  • Certifications:
  • Preferred: AZ-104 (Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate).
  • Additional foundational certifications, such as AZ-900 (Microsoft Azure Fundamentals), are advantageous.
